Event: More than 30 tasters raised a glass to celebrate Ray G’s birthday Monday night at the Drop-in tasting at Ninth Street Wine Market. It was a nice way to celebrate his “29th” birthday with 12 wines being presented by National Distributing and Atlanta Wholesale Wines. As usual Donna had a nice selection of appetizers and hors d’oeuvres.

Montes Classic Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
What: This wine is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, both sourced from the well known Colchagua Valley. The wine has been aged for six months in new and used French oak. Deep ruby red color, very appealing,The nose is packed with layers of caramel, cinnamon, candy and hints of mint, with a prevalence of fruit over oak. A spicy, full-flavored wine, with good body, fruit and firm friendly tannins. Full body in mid palate and pleasant finish. Well recommend for pairing it with a piece of soft red meats, some pastas or as wine by the glass.
Can be cellared for up to 5 years.

Roodeberg White 2008
What: Winemaking: This blend consists of 45% Chardonnay, 40% Chenin Blanc and 15% “winemakers secret”. Grapes were crushed and then fermented separately with selected yeast strains. 75% of the Chardonnay and 65% of the Chenin Blanc was matured on oak for 3 months.
Wine Description: This full-bodied white wine has an abundance of tropical, peach, litchi, rose petals and lemon flavours. The oak is well integrated with toast, almond and butter notes. The wine is soft and smooth with a clean finish and lingering aftertaste. –From their website

Roodeberg Red 2007
What: Winemaking: Specially selected grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented dry on the skins. The wine was allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks before 90 % of the wine was matured in 300 litre, second fill and third fill French oak barrels for 14 – 16 months. The other 10 % was matured in new 300 litre French oak barrels. It was then blended and bottled.
