A Mighty Arrow Strikes Home

New Belgium Might Arrow Pale Ale
I stopped by Vineyard Wine Market and Roger pointed out A Might Arrow saying, “the delivery guy stopped by and said you need two cases of this ” which was news to him. This is one of five New Belgium seasonals. Since 2 Below pretty much ran out back in early January it was about time for something new from New Belgium. This is their Spring Seasonal. Our real Winter is pretty much over here in Augusta but it’s still cold when I take Mr. Ben to school. I guess this is my own version of Ground Hog Day. If I drink one of these and I like it then the rest of Winter is going to be nice. I’m very happy that the Colorado brewer is now available in the East. I used to work for a company that had properties in Colorado and when I got to fly in the company plane I always brought back Fat Tire. Now I just have to stop by local shops and there it is. (I even have a Fat Tire bike jersey which unfortunately doesn’t fit so well now over my big fat spare tire). I also drool each time I see the Fat Tire neon sign at Wine World in North Augusta.

I popped open the first one with my Dad-in-Law on Sunday. He liked it. Mrs. Dan turned her nose up immediately. Guess it isn’t a “girl’s” brew. I liked it. First taste to me has a hint of a chocolate malt but it disappears on second taste. Looking at their site it says it uses “Amarillo and Cascase hops with a honey malt base.” Can’t say I’ve heard heard of a honey malt but this is a slightly sweet beer. Very mild hop taste. Not overly carbonated. I could easily consume two over a meal. A pretty amber color reminenscent of Fat Tire.

The New Belgium website and the label says “This is our brewed tribute to Arrow, Kim’s Aussie/Border Collie mix who ran (literally) New Belgium for 12 years. When she wasn’t patrolling the brewery grounds, she was famous for her office visits: She never met a tummy rub she didn’t like. Atta girl Arrow.” The label shows old Arrow heading out the door.

I would like to know if this is available on tap anywhere. This would go with a pizza quite nicely. I had it tonight with some Suddenly Salad Pasta Salad with some Montreal Seasoned steak chunks mixed in. I had hoped to save a bottle for Mark to try. Tough luck Mark. Between Mr. Mrs. Dan and myself the carton is empy. Yikes I just realized I’ve got two rented movies that are due tonight. Gotta go!
