An early Friday group chats as they explore the wines and beers
Event: With a name like “Sassy Bitch” you would think this wine came from Australia. Not so! This wine is from Chile and has won several awards. It was a hit with many of the gang who went to Chateau Elan’s VineyardFest. Vineyard WIne Market has waited almost a month to get this in and this Wednesday it comes to The Vineyard. So before anyone else in town has the chance to place it on their shelf, we will be tasting the Chardonnay and Merlot they offer.
They will also features last years Top 100 number ten wine by Wine Spectator. Segheso Zinfandel has been a consistent and wonderful wine over the years, but the past few years have been stellar.
And don’t forget the beer. Why not explore some beers in advance of October so you’ll be ready for Oktobrfest.

Addamo Vineyards Pinot Noir
What: The Addamo web site says: “Notes of forest floor, juniper berries and raspberries are apparent on the nose. A creamy, elegant texture caresses the palate. While appropriate with food, this wine is also a pleasing and giving sipping wine. The Addamo Estate Pinot Noir is our flagship varietal. With 31 acres planted, Pinot Noir makes up 75% of the Addamo vineyard. The vines are a collection of four different clones sourced from Dijon, France. Ruby red in color, this medium-bodied wine has moderate acidity and low tannins. This wine offers a very inviting bouquet of lilac, violet, red fruit and fresh dill. This warm vintage ripened the Pinot Noir grapes all at the same time, consequently to be harvested in early October. This hand selected blend was drawn from ten barrels showing exceptional structure. This wine spent 14 months in barrel before it was bottled. It can be opened immediately or held for up to 5 years.”

Segheso Zinfandel
From: Sonoma, California
Winery: Segheso
Artesa Cabernet Sauvignon
What: From their web site:”Winemaking-Following hand-harvesting, the grapes were de-stemmed only (whole berries). Fermentations were conducted in a combination of open-top vessels with a punchdown device and closed tanks with gentle cap irrigators. Several types of yeast were used for both inoculated and uninoculated fermenting. Most lots were pressed directly to barrel, and malolactic fermentations finished in barrel. Post-fermentation, selected lots received extended maceration for further phenolic development. After one year, the wines were racked and returned to barrel for an additional year of aging.
Tasting Notes-Bright wild blackberry and cherry are complimented with abundant spice. Black pepper, clove, allspice, vanilla, nutmeg and a hint of cedar smoke. Finely knit together with a silky mid-palate, this wine has sufficient tannin backbone for aging. This wine will be delicious for the next five to ten years”

Here are the Oktoberfest beers to be presented:
Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale
Brewery: Michelob
Dogfish Pumpkin Ale
What: A seasonal brew. Here’s what their web site says: “A full-bodied brown ale with smooth hints of pumpkin and brown sugar. We brew our Punkin Ale with pumpkin meat, organic brown sugar and spices. This is the perfect beer to warm-up with, as the season cools.
Punkin Ale is named after a locally-famous and seriously off-centered event here in southern Delaware – Punkin Chunkin (check out some of these Discovery Channel videos of Punkin Chunkin, you gotta see it to believe it!). In fact, Punkin Ale made it’s debut as it claimed First Prize in the 1994 Punkin Chunkin Recipe Conest – yes, that was a full 6 months before we even opened our doors for business. Punkin Chunkin has grown in size and scale with pumpkins now being hurled more than 4,000 feet through the air! If you come down to see if for yourself – come by and visit us.
Since then, we’ve brewed Punkin Ale each and every fall. It is released right around September first each year. When you find it, grab some extra because it’s usually gone by Thanksgiving.
Every Beer Has A Story – here’s Punkin Ale:”

Samuel Adams Octoberfest
What: From their web site: “The first thing you notice when pouring a glass of this seasonal beer is the color. Samuel Adams® Octoberfest has a rich, deep golden amber hue which itself is reflective of the season. Samuel Adams® Octoberfest is a malt lover’s dream, masterfully blending together five roasts of barley to create a delicious harmony of sweet flavors including caramel and toffee. The beer is kept from being overly sweet by the elegant bitterness imparted by the German Noble hops. Samuel Adams® Octoberfest provides a wonderful transition from the lighter beers of summer to the winter’s heartier brews.”
